Not enough oil, or is the dipstick too short?

I don't agree with you guys about 'the silly rope'. It's cable(like air craft use) and I wish my 01 L had it too. The 'cable' has(at least on my 97 4.6) an 'end' that will indicate your oil's c/c level.

I do agree that it's frustrating when I first saw where 6 qts of oil put that level--about in the middle of the metal 'end'--but you can learn to live with it. Btw, the same mid-point is reached on my L when I put 6 qts. in it too. It's no big deal.

It's very refreshing that some of you are willing to admit your dipstick is too short, most guys try to hide that fact. Mine seems fine.
