well i was driving my 02 5.4 thought it felt like trany was going out, started shaking like crazy going down the road, then to SES light came on. i stole a code puller from work and it came up with cylinder # 1 misfire. I was thinking tomorrow i was gonna try and change the coil on that cylinder. i hope that is the problem.

anyone done that b/f?

I would put money saying its a COP. I just went thew same thing, I just replaced all COP so I wouldnt have to do it again later and problem solved. Just remember to use dielectrical grease!! Took me about 1 1/2hrs to do all 8. Most people say to remove fuel rails. I didn't remove anything but the air filter box and I had zero issues getting to all of them. Good luck

 

Iduno, sounds like you have two problems, a coil and your rear end fluid has broken down. That will cause the truck to shake, -it can get bad enough to make it seem like the trans is coming apart.

 

well I replaced coil # 1 that didn't do much i thought it was fine but about five miles into the test drive everything was back to crap. same problem. i cleared all the codes b/f the test drive so i drove till the light came back on. i still get the p0301 cylinder # 1 misfire and got a new one that i don't think was on there before i cleared them, p0351 ignition coil A primary/secondary circuit?


so I'm not sure what the next step is for sure i guess do all of the ohm and volt tests and check wiring.

as far as changing all of the COP's i think i will do that at some point in the near future.

and as far as the rear end goes i know about that all to well. i had issues with that about six months ago, and changed all of the fluids and put the limited slip additive in and that is all good. i know remember what that felt like and this isn't it. thanks for looking out though!

Switch #2 coil w/#1 to confirm it's not the coil now. It would help posting what part you threw at it. You should have done this before possibly wasting the cash on a new coil. Regardless, yea, switch them out to confirm.

So you felt that rear end shake in the past ? I've been in one with that problem, -it'll shake right off the road lol.

i should give that a go and see what happens. i was wondering if there was any chance i could have got a bad coil. the one i put in today was new but you know how that goes with some of that stuff. i'll have to wait till tomorrow to give that a try now.

 

Yea, there's a good chance. It depends on the coil purchased as most are inferior to Motorcraft and Visteon. -
