Post oil pressure gauges

If our trucks have idiot oil pressure gauges, why have one?If there is a leak, then the gauge needle won't move. Doesn't make sense.

It's called "cheap". Ford did it this way for that reason, I actually don't know what tells the guage what reading to give.

Actually, it wasn't a cost of the gauge issue which drove Ford to do this.

In the early 80's(?) when they had actual oil pressure gauges, people used to go into their dealerships complaining the oil pressure was low then high, then low then high under different conditions. 99.99999% that was normal, and they got tired of trying to explain the gauge to the novice user. Does it suck for the people who know better? yes, but it also gives the novice people peace of mind that everything is okay.

it should be an option to have a real one, but then it would highlight the reason they put in the dummy one! It should be a light if that is all it is going to be

Dear Abby,
I must admit that I feel pretty stupid that I only learned of this recently (on this site). I have four Auto Meter gauges installed, including oil pressure, so I wasn't really worried about it, but it still caught me off guard. Is this true for all Fords, or just the trucks ? Would the gauge respond if a variable sending unit was installed ?

We have discussed this somewhere before and I think we decided that changing the sending unit would not give us our gauge back.
Search for the original post to be sure.
In fact if you can find it bring it back to page1
