glc, I have changed the fuel filter. Would the cats have to be removed to check for blockage?

Is the truck shaking, difficult to keep on the road @ 50 mph or above?

glc can answer that, -I'll just add that it sounds like you melted the cat cone sealing most of it up. That only happens when the vehicle has had misfire issues or someone ran Seafoam thru it.

No, they can use an infrared tester and/or pull O2's, stick a gauge in the bung and check for backpressure.

I know that I have not ran seafoam through it and have not had any misfire codes. I guess that I will have to find some time to get it to the muffler shop. jbrew, the truck does not shake or seem hard to steer over 50mph, it actually seems to track decent for its age and tire size the hill billy before me mounted. I am getting little leary of my new (used) truck. Sometimes it hesistates when I give it the gas from a stop sign or light. I am afraid I am going to lose/chase my *** on this truck.

edit: sorry jbrew, in the above post lose my rear end was figuratively speaking not literally sorry about that. I am just at a loss as to where to start to get this truck up to snuff.

I know exactly where to start, that's what I was getting you prepared for earlier.

Rip off that intake and compression test. That's where you start with that one and right away, you'll know if it's worth doing with that engine.

You pass compression, then you start right there @ the intake gaskets and work up. They're good strong motors if it was taken care of. Right now you have problems, so you need to find out what's going on.

I've done it, there's little problems in a few places with one this old, not usually a big deal but they add up. you know....

Does it matter if I was not pushing the od button when going up the slight incline while pulling the trailer?
