Post Do I NEED premium gas??

Engine seems to "ping" most of the time. Plugs may have 60k miles. Just wondering... I heard the 2000 models req. premium gas.

Sounds more like you should be fixing the problem instead of switching gas. Pinging is usually caused by carbon buildup in the cylinders. Try Chevron's Techron fuel additive. Had an old truck that pinged and ONE treatment with Techron cured it.

Costs about $8 a bottle. Follow the directions for best results.

The 2000 models are not required to have Premium gasoline.

The owners manual for the 2000s specifically state NOT TO USE PREMIUM GASOLINE on page 211:
"If you are experiencing starting, rough idle, or hesitation driveability problems.....try a different brand of "Regular" gasoline.
"Premium" unleaded gasoline is not recommended (particularly in the United States) because it may cause these problems to become more pronounced."

Dennis, I bought some Chevron Techron from Target. (Clearance, $1.24) I'll try it soon. Thanks
