eh, you mean BP, Brittish Petroleum bought Amoco

BTW, Chevron Techron works very well, Iused it on my sisters old mini van and it totally smoothed it out, stop 'ping' also.

I run 50,000+ miles a year in my 'company car' F150 and now have over 165,000 miles, most of them on Texaco 87 octane Reg Unl (company gas card) I have never used a fuel treatment in this truck and have had ANY problems (and I do run it HARD)

The only 'work' that has been done on this truck is routine maintanance (oil/filter every 5,000 miles, plugs & wires every 50,000, trans service every 25,000 miles, tires and brakes as needed)

Techron is pretty good stuff....

...especially if you don't put a ton of miles on the vehicle.

Folks like Petrol who put lots of miles on engines don't experience near the deposit problems many others of us are prone to. The engine runs hot for a great period of time, and this tends to keep it cleaner. "Highway miles" as they call it....

For those of us in town, some cleaning may be more helpful. i, too, have noticed Techron's "smoothing" benefits, but maybe it's all in my head. But, I make a large number of short trips, and haven't had an injector cleaning yet....

Cool

A friend recently told me of a product called Z-Max. Said to check it out so I went down to a Schuck's and asked the guys about it. He said it was one of the best going on the market right now.

I tried it out and it seems to have worked well and smoothed out some of the rough spots on my 4.6 with over 170k miles. The downside is it comes as a treatment set and cost about $30 or so.

Like I said seems to work for me but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm about 200-300 miles into Amsoil PI. It seems like it idles a little smoother but it's still pretty early.

bryanreed attention

bryanreed, do not use Z max any more!! I too was going to use this product (recommended from a friend) and found out from this site or another that The federal trade commission is going after the makers of Z-max for false advertising. I don't remember all the specifics, but the FTC concluded that Z-max was not much more than tainted MINERAL OIL!, and that by their testing, it caused bearing corrosion at TWICE the normal oil only rate!!
Just do a search on the net regarding the federal trade commision and Z-max....hope this helps
