Replacing a 02 4.6 fuel injected with a 1984 351w with a carb.. My thing is how hard is it to bypass the computer ( if it can be done). Also what kind of things do I need to do, change or get to make this work, or is there a coversion kit for the motor and trans. This is a 4x4 E.B. explorer.

 

No its isnt a practical swap.

 

It isn't practical, but you would still need wiring to transmission. Different bolt patterns on tranny, torque converters, ect.

 

No one who has proposed doing this swap has ever came back to talk about the finish project. It would be no different then taking the drive train out of a chevy or a dodge thats how dissimilar the 351w is from the 4.6. Nothing bolts up. I have heard if you got a explorer that had a 302 for a doner you could make that stuff bolt up. It'd would be a major ordeal. So much easier to find a used 4.6 or even a 5.4 swap is realistic.

 

There is a member here that swapped an e40d and 351w into a 98. I forgot his name. No there wasn't a write up, but he claims it was something he would never do again.
