Post Chevy gets more horses, and so does Ford.....

Chevy's 4.8 got 270hp, the 5.3 has 285, and the 6 Liter stays the same. The Ford 5.4 for the Superdutys gets the 260 horse version. Just thought I'd let you all know

Well, I was going thru the topic for today an one was engine oils and I clicked it on ,there was your topic on HP.(had to be a comp error)
Now for the 2nd answer, 2000 5.4L engines have 265 Hp in them, I know cause I own one and it plainly states on the engine sheet off from the quality control spec sheet 5.4L rated at 265 HP.

Don't forget that the 2000 SD V-10 now has 310 HP also. This is up from the 275HP from 1999.

Question

Still no word on the 4.6L? Or is it definitely staying the same as '99?

Nomo, I talked to the salesman at where I bought my truck, and he says that all he knows is that the Expedtion got bumped up to 240 hp with the 4.6.
I asked him why doesn't anyone know about the trucks 4.6 increase, and he told me that all the trucks (pre orders) had the 5.4 engines in them and what they have received also has the 5.4s,
They are mostly heavy duty and commercial dealer at this part of the dealership where I dealt with.
I hear anything I'll post it ASAP.

WWB,

I read in my motor trend for this month that the V10 hp stayed the same, but I heard that it also got 310.

For the sake of comparison purposes I would like to see all manufacturers horsepower ratings done at a specific RPM, say 2500 or 3000. Then we would see what engines actually have usable horsepower. Also do the same thing for the torque ratings. What good is alot of power at 4500 rpm's, most people don't drive with their engines wound out like that.

Why would you want alot of torque just at 2500rpm? Its best at low rpms, so you can get a good launch, and tow good, and Im sure for many other reasons. The reason why the HP is up at high rpms is just the way their built I believe, and you would need hp at higher rpms to get up to highway speed, floor it to pass someone, etc.

The 2000 V-10 is 310 HP. The dealer told me this. The Ford literature showed this increase too. It was in the 2000 SD order book.

fast46triton, I think you missed my point, I said for comparison purposes. My point is that if you compare an engine that has say 200hp at 2500rpm and a max 255hp at 3350rpm to an engine that has 125hp at 2500rpm and a max of 315hp at 4850rpm based solely on peak hp the later appears better, when in actuality the first one has more horsepower in the normal rpm range, at least for a truck anyhow. Therefore if they were all compared on a equal chart it would be more easy to see which engine has what you need and which one just blows alot of smoke. Also I didn't mean to neccessarily compare torques at the same rpm as horsepower, just compare the engines at an constant rpm not at each ones peak. I hope that I explained my point better this time.

all engines cant make peak around same rpm, it has to do valve lift, cam size, and almost every other spec on it, since different manufaturers use different technics, they build different hp at diff levels, also bigger vehicles need hp & tq down low to get moving
