Help with missfire and found antifreeze when removed spark plug boot off cylinder 5
4.6L triton 220,000 miles
I've had occasional missfires and usually just change the plug to find out it fouled. Put new spark plugs and wires on both motorcraft brand about 30,000 miles ago.
Problem is i had a missfire on cylinder 5 which is closest to radiator on driver side. Bought a spark plug to change like i normally do every 6-7 months if i have a missfire and when i pulled the wire boot off number 5 i noticed i had antifreeze pooled almost to the top of the spark plug. It doesn't appear that it is leaking from the housing which is right above and to the front of cylinder 5 but i guess that is possible. Engine looks a little damp along the upper side of valve cover gaskets but not sure how antifreeze could be getting down into the spark plug hole. Anyway I changed the plug and still have the missfire. Funny thing is when I pull the wire off it runs a lot worse so it still is firing partially. Wire looks to be in good shape. I have one coil pack on each side of the engine that 4 wires run into. Any help would be appreciated very much because I am stumped on what could be causing this. The only codes I have are cylinder missfire #5 and catalyst below deficiancy bank 2. the catalyst below deficiancy bank 2 is a code that i have always had and figured it is just an oxygen sensor that doesn't affect engine performance or at least it hasn't in the past at all. Experienced help would be very much appreciated......i LOVE MY F150 AND THE 4.6 TRITON AND WANT IT TO GO 300K MILES! I USE IT TO PULL FISHING AND SKI BOATS BUT IT MAKES IT TOUGH WITH THE MISSFIRE AND BACKFIRING...STILL IS A TOUGH SON OF A GUN THOUGH!

I'm with patman. Coolant outlet gooseneck O ring, coolant hose connection leaking or the intake gasket which is what I would bet on. All fairly easy repairs.
good luck.
good luck.

ok thanks guys i will check those out...could a catalyst below deficiancy bank 2 make a truck missfire like that? in my experience it has always been a fouled plug, broken down wire, or faulty coil pack. hopefully we will get her right
same?
The dates seem odder, but I recently have found the same issue.. cylinder 5 misfiring, changed plugs and when changing found a pool of coolant inside plug hole? Still miss fires, idles a bit rough..no white smoke and the oil doesn't seem bad, did notice that the heater cools off when idiling but heats up while accelerating... don't wanna go in debt fixing my truck
