how many main caps?
how many main caps?
Ok... Im new here and am also new when it comes to vehicle repair. But i am also poor so i am learning as i go and in over my head. I am doing alright so far with advice from people who know these things and from reading on here. but i have one question i cant find an answer to. I have a 2001 f150 8 cyl 5.4 and everything i see or read tells me that there are four main bearings... however, when im on my back looking up into my motor i see what looks to be five main caps. so... my question is this, if there are only four bearings, which cap do i not remove? or, am i dumber than i think and there are five? also... i have the cap screws and the alignment dowels out of one but the cap its self is pretty stiff. this i expected but does anyone have any easy ways to get it down? or do i just keep tugging and hoping?
Thanks in advance for any help. this sight has been a huge help so far in my ordeal. a month and a half ago i could change breaks and oil. since then i have puzzled out how to replace an intake manifold and have gotten into my motor to replace rod bearings that turned out to be fine so now im working on the mains. im pretty self impressed lol but still smart enough to know that i dont realy know anything and am running mostly on luck.
thanks again.

You really need a manual. You need to know if it's Romeo or Windsor. If you're laying on your back with engine installed in vehicle trying to do this work..., you're brave!!!
I assume you don't have a tear down manual. Get 1 before you regret it.
