How hard is it to change starter on '07 4.6?

I think I have some stripped gear teeth on my starter motor because every so ofter, I'll get this horrible grinding noise when starting the truck. The starter itself isn't too expensive but how hard is it to install? Where is it located on the engine? Thanks.

sounds like it's not disengaging. Bendix spring is prob bad. Do starters still have bendix springs? I don't know if it's an easy job...

Very Simple, with the correct extension and air ratchet.

I'd worry more about the flywheel ring gear.

Yea that's my concern too. Should I pull the starter off first and inspect the gear on that and then if the gears are fine I should assume the flywheel is jacked up and vice versa?

There is an inspection plate. I would take it off and manually turn the engine. If thats bad the tranny has to come undone to get it out..

Make sure nothings bent or missing teeth. I haven't seen that to often or at all with these. Pre 07, yes..
