What a difference $ 3.99 makes...

So for the last two oil changes, I bought a Motorcraft oil filter for my truck. It no longer sounds like a diesel when I start it.

The filter is $ 3.99 at the local O'reileys, and my oil change shop gives a $ 3.00 discount for using my own filter.

I asked the shop a long time ago about their filters. Particularly regarding the check valve. They say the filters they use have them, so I just went along with it...for about 100k miles. Just tried the Motorcraft as an experiment...big difference in the sound of the engine at start-up.

Just posting this for what it's worth!

Regards!

I don't know what brand filter they use...

According to their in office advertisement propaganda, they use Chevron Oils (who knows whats really in the drum)...I'll have to look at the filters the next time I go in for an oil change...

This place has done all but a few oil changes. I think I had 2 done at the dealer, and a couple done at a local Big-O...

Regards!

Well, I've used three filter brands in mine and there wasn't a lick of difference in noise between them. They are; FL820s, the Royal Purple 20-820 and a Purolator Pure 1 PL24651.Of course, these weren't bargain basement filters and, to the extent there is a noise you would wonder if it wasn't the $1.50 filters that were the problem.

I also now have a bypass filter on the truck and I don't notice any difference in noise

Agreed. It definitely has a paper anti-drainback valve.

Yea, I had an 01 2v that was like that sort of. It was loud during crank, - starter was fine. Purchased it used with a no-name blue oil filter. Changed to a Motorcraft FL820 and it didn't make a difference. Guess the damage was done. Sold that one as is or was.
