I am wondering if anybody has had a 4.6 motor apart and if anyone knows what type of parts are in it. I am specifically wondering if:
Block - 2 or 4 bolt mains??? Webbings strong?
Rods - studded or bolts, and how big???
Pistons - Forged or Hyperutetic (aka-Hyperpathitic)

If anyone is interested in why I am so curious, I just may have to put a bottle on the motor.

I purchased a Hayne's automotive manual for my 98'. It covers the F-150/250, Expedition, and Navigator. It covers everything you need to know about your truck. Anyway, it does show how to tear down an engine and it is very detailed. It should be able to answer all of your questions. I got it at KMart for about $13. It also tells your fluid requirements, routine maintenance, etc. It is a good reference book to have.

worked for the company that made the ***'y
line in winsor
the main caps are held on by 2 bolts and 2
dowels. pass. car engines only have 2 bolts
so it's kind of a 4 bolt main
the rod have bolts there a powderd metal
instead of machining the rod caps they
bore them and snap the the caps off.
the pistons are cast
the block has real deep skirts in it
i believe porshe did the engine design i chould be wrong.

Why hasn't Ford gone to 6 bolt main's like Chevy? Do they do anything in addition to help with strength?

 

Six bolts in mush is still six bolts in mush...there are different grades of alloys, some better, some worse.
