Question Cam Specs? Patdon?

Does anyone have the cam specs for the 4.2L?
I have lift, but not duration, etc...I know Patdon has supplied info about this motor before. Any help would be appreciated.

Patdon,

Any word when Ford will drop the 4.2. It seems GM is going to an inline 5 in their trucks. I believe Ford will follow suit with some form of inline.

Blue Oval News interviewed a Ford truck engineer. He hopes Ford will go back to the inline. Ford had the 3.8 in the f-150 for a couple years before they realized they had made a mistake. Ford has had 2yrs with the 4.2. So lets move on to a real truck motor the inline.

Got info from Blue Oval news before they are shut down 4.2L will be around in 2003. But a V6 diesel and more HP is on the way for the V8's.

As much as possible Pat. You are a great help. Thanks.

I could only get one page of specs. It shows opening and closing degrees and lift. It doesn't show anything about duration. My email is patdon@mnsi.net . I have a fax machine if you would send you phone # or I can snail mail it to you. Either way not a problem.

I respect your fondness for the inline 6, BUT, the 4.2 puts the food on the table at my house. If it weren't for the 4.2, our plant would run 1 shift. As of now our plant has no engine to build after 2003. So, if they do go to an inline I hope we have built a good reputation with our 3.8 and4.2 so that we get another engine to build.

Thumbs up

I see your point. I have a '94 f-150 4.9 82k with no problems. All the news about the 4.2 blowing head gaskets left and right worries me. If I would have to have major work done at say 45k like new head gaskets it is not worth the money I saved on initial purchase. I love Fords, there quality is good. Maybe Ford has fixed the problem with newer models.
I have never driven a 4.2 truck. Maybe it does have good power. Surely it would blow my 4.9 away. I want an automatic truck. I am tired of banging gears. With the $1600 I could save maybe I will give the 4.2 a chance.
