yeah thats a great question.. i used motorcraft every time i changed my oil for about 130,000 miles.no rough idleing.ran great.then decided to use a wix for a first time. quickly started noticing rough idleing and lack of power..changed it back to motorcraft..put some seafoams (will drain your tank like no other)through it...runs like a beast now...

I have a 2007 with 65,000.... Same thing happened to me... Changed the oil and got the diesel effect about 3 days afterwards... The shop that changed my oil put regular 5w20 oil in it..... I took it back and had synthetic put in it... Haven't had that happen anymore... This was almost 6 months ago...

I'm not saying it worked or didn't but synthetic is way cheaper than changing out cam phasers and vct's...

just changed oil 1 week ago 5w20 syn and motorcraft filter,i talked to a shop they said it sounds like the cam tenioners and guides are worn out, and that the noise is happening because it doesnt have enough oil pressure to keep the tensioner out due to wear 1200.00 dollars to fix

I had an 04 f150. Mine sounded like s diesel at 90k. I had changed the solenoids. It helped for a little while then the sound came back. The noise is from the cam phasers. The oil pumps are junk and don't pump enough oil. If the screens are missing or torn in the solenoids, The heads have been starved for oil. Metal shavings tear the screens. Mine were fine. I changed all the timing components and put as Melling high volume pump in it. It runs as good as new now and my fuel economy improved.
