was going to trade the truck in, but...
Last week I went to my local car dealer to buy a new
truck, I was going to buy a 1994 chev 6.5 turbo deisel,
for the fuel economy, but when we got dealing the only
said they'd give me 15,000.00 canadian for my truck!!!!
its a 1997 F-150 xlt 4*4 extended cab shift on the fly
with 137000 kilometers. it is in good shape too. is that not
horrible? but anyways won't buy the chev. what do you guys think
it should be worth more than that

You can find out alot about what a truck or a car is worth
Good Luck
Do NOT buy the 6.5L truck. Run away from it. That is one of the worst engines GM ever put in a truck. They have major fuel pump problems. The engine surges. misses (yes, this particular diesel misses under hard acceleration), and just plain quits running.
My friend just turned his in, finally. I think it was also a '94. It was towed to the dealer at least 5 times. I was driving it once and the engine died right in the middle of a turn. Ever tried steering a 3500 series with a dead diesel? I almost ran into a parked car on the side of the road.
I know of a couple of other people with this particular engine who have to turn their a/c off when towing up long hills because the engine overheats and it's not a problem with maintenance since they've been doing this from when the truck was new.

I was going to trade my truck '99 f-150 xlt 4x4 offroad, trailer tow, sliding back window - loaded with all the little items 45,000 km (with a 6 year warranty), on a lightning - they only wanted to give me $20,000 for my truck and would not budge on the $42650 of the lightning, so I know how you feel, actually i probably feel worse.
But if you trade your truck off on that chev you will feel much worse, I aggree with Dennis they have bad injection pumps and here in canada they are about $2500 just for that, chev also had recalls on them too or tsbs.

dennis is right!
the GM 6.5 TD is a bad engine... it replaced the old 6.2 which was bulletproof but was extremely weak and i dont think even had a turbo. it seems to me that most ford and dodge 3/4 and 1 tons have diesels, but most chevies have the big block, and theres a good reason for this!
the new isuzu duramax may be ok, its too early to tell, but if you must have a GM diesel i'd get an old 6.2 or just take a chance with the isuzu... the 6.5 is not a good engine.

a few years ago my dad was looking at a 1 ton suburban with the turbo diesel. he was dealing with the same salesman that he had been dealing with for almost 20 years and the guy told him that the chevy diesel is an automatic $2000 deduction if and when he goes to trade it in.
One of my friends has a 1 ton chevy dually with the diesel a 96-97 model and he can not go over 65 when he is pulling any kind of trailer. The motor just starts to overheat and loses power. He just hates it when i fly past in my powerstroke.

yeah i agree that the 6.5 have fuel pump problems but everyone were i live never had a problem with it, and the motor was great. Yes i agree the 6.2 is bulletproof, and gets awsome fuel milage, but it is in old trucks, but anyways thanks for the help guys!
I was going to trade my truck in and go back to a Mustang GT but after checking what the trade in value was for my 2000 F150 was I decided not to these trucks don't hold there value the sticker on my truck was 22500 but acording to KBB.COM my trucks trade value was just under 14,000 your talking over 8,000 drop in value in little over a year. The truck only has 32500 plus miles on it and is in very good shape.
hmustang, i can't believe how KBB valued your truck I just check out my 98 and it came in at $13,455 for a trade-in and I have 59,200 miles on it. My truck is also in very good shape. I had thought about turning my truck in last year and decided against it as I still owed more than it was worth at that time, I'd bought it in late 98 when the dealer had 99's on the lot. Now with the new truck on the way for I think it's 03 I will wait. It looks like Ford is going to offer a V6 Diesel in the 150's in the new model so I have my eye on that one.
