Timing Chain
Timing Chain
I have 2 motors both 4.6 1 is out of a 97 Expedition & the other is out of 02 Supercrew.Im posting pics to show my concern.
This is the 2002 motor, this is correct for the timing?

And this is the 97 Expedition motor,Im sure the timing is wrong?IDK

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...r-engines.html Read this. Neither picture will tell me if they are in time. The timing marks (four copperlinks, two per chain with two timing marks on cam gears (one each)and two on crank timing gears, one on front gear and one on rear gear)will only all lineup at the sametime every 50-52 revolutions if the engine was timed correctly from the beginning. I other words the timing marks on the chains and on the gears do not stay aligned through every revolution only every 50-52 revolutions are they all aligned at the same time. The fact that one engine will not turn over could be an indication that it is out of time but there are other causes such as a bent rod from hydrolock that keep and engine from rotating and obviously other causes as well.
