Looking at new ones?

Newbee here,

Hello All,

I have a few questions? I have a 89 F150 straight 6 4.9 liter shortbed, with 170,000 miles on it. Bought it new, been the best truck I have ever owned. It's time for a new one. So as u might expect, im buying another FORD.

Question #1.
I am currently looking at the 4.6 liter, xlt lariat supercab (not crewcab). I pull a boat that weights about 4200 lbs boat, motor, and trailer. My 89 pulls it just fine a little sluggish but nothing to worry about. My questions is will the 4.6 give about the same in performance seeing it is a V8? Sorry guys not a motor junky here.

Question #2.
I went to www.carpoint.msn.com, and when i looked under FORD truck it says that have a 4.6L with 230 hp and one with 260hp?
Is that correct? The 260 hp has same stats as the 5.4L, excpt for stroke..

All opinions are welcome, as u see i drive them a long time. I want to make some good decisions.

Thanks

I have a 97 F150 XLT Supercab 4X4 and it pulls a 3850lb boat and trailer just fine. It doesn't even hesitate in the hills. Just make sure you don't have it in overdrive when trailering.

The only 4.6 I know of that has 260hp is in the Mustangs the trucks have 231hp for 2001 and up before 2001 it was 220hp. As far as the 4.6 being able to handle that load it should handle it with no trouble some steep hills might make it work harder but still shouldn't be much of a problem for it.

That straight six was a torque monster. Best six cylinder motor made in the entire industry. If you liked the characteristics of that engine, I'd start comparing torque numbers. Horsepower will get you there once you're out of the neighborhood. The 4.6 has 293 ft-lb's, stock. The 5.4 has 350 ft-lb's, stock.

However, as long as your just hauling a trailer with a boat on it, the 4.6 should work just fine.
