I was driving my 05 5.4l screw home from the gym tonight when i heard a pop sound then my check engine light flashed. When i pulled over i noticed an 8 inch flame coming from my exhaust cutout so i shut it off. Now it wont start and im on the side of the road in the cold. Any ideas? Im thinkiing clogged cat? Truck has 82k miles.

 

sounds like an injector stuck open, and when you tried to re-start it it hydrolocked

How many miles are on your truck? Read the ford customer letter at the top of the page. You may be eligible for coverage under the extended waranty on 05 injectors.

 

I had it towed last night to the dealer. The truck has 82k on it. No it wont turn over at all. I might go back today and see if any fuses or anything are blown. Im supposed to work 12 hrs today so im kinda stuck letting the dealer check it out.

 

After reading the sticking injector thread, I now see that I probably should have just posted there but it was late and I was looking for help on the side of the road. Plus I haven't been on here for a while. Looks like I will probably have a lot of trouble getting this fixed and will probably spend the next few weeks fighting with my dealer. I hope the damage is not that bad, but based on the size of the flames coming from my exhaust I would say that something is probably messed up along with the injector. What really sux is that we don't have a fix for the problem and just have to put in more of the same injectors.

 

Nope. The replacement injectors have a different part number and do not have this issue.

 

I guess that isn't a good enough change for many people

 

Any damage caused by injector failure is covered and it shouldnt be a big deal. print out the letter and hand it to the dealer. covered end of story. Maybe a rebuilt engine. 7 year old truck gets a rebuilt motor that may end up not being a bad thing..

So the dealer called me yesterday and said that my #3 injector was stuck completely open. They replaced the faulty injector then replaced the o-rings on the 7 other injectors. They changed the oil and filter and said they drove the truck and it was running fine with no more DTCs. I drove the truck to work this morning and it started to shutter really bad around 55mph. It also hesitates now at WOT. It did not throw a CEL but I can tell its not right. I called them this morning and they said it is possilbe that an ignition coil is bad too. It surprises me that they did not have to change the spark plug in the #3 cylinder due to the fact it filled with fuel. I didn't have to pay for anything yesterday, but I am sure they will try to charge me for anything else that they do.

 

If its related to the injector failure they wont charge you. If its not they will..

 

Still no check engine light but I ran the codes last night and had a P0353 for ignition coil primary/secondary circuit. I went ahead and dropped it back off to the dealer last night.
