I'd order a plug while you're at it.

You can buy just one coil from Global Automotive on Ebay ($11.25) a lot cheaper than a Motorcraft ($42.79 from rockauto.com). However, if you can come up with $72.50 you can get a whole set from Global. When one coil starts to go, the others may not be far behind. Free shipping on these, search for DG508.

Motorcraft SP-479 plugs are $2.59 each at rockauto.com - plus shipping.

Then why did you tell him to use a Motorcraft Coil ? Original coils went out at 165,000 I lost 2 before purchasing a second set of Motorcraft coils (NEW). 2 of those went out quick, within the first year. I should say one went out, the other went out because the spring inside the fuel line connector at the rail rusted and broke. # 8 got hosed with fuel @ about 55 mph.

Since then, -about 2005, I've been running Global coils. Not a problem. I'll post up when one goes out.

I think your rolling the dice with any of the coil suppliers. Some are worse than others. I think ACCELL has the worst history. Global or Ureek, take your pick, they both have had coil DOA issues from what people have been saying.

There is one supplier that I haven't heard good or bad, that's MSD Coils -

Yea, haven't heard ^^^ a peep about those. That's a good sign , I think.

If he has the cash to buy one Motorcraft, he has the cash to buy 4 Globals......the odds of one of them being just as good are pretty good - in fact the odds of buying just ONE and having it work fine are pretty good too.

And I still say the Motorcraft ARE the BEST!
If he's brook,
he can send me enough money to ship him a COP. And I'll send him 2 or 3 ebay POS COPS . I'm sure he'll find one that works.

I have used the coils from Global and have had only one go bad over 66k or several years. They are not bad coils. You have some failures in every group.

I think he's nitpicking - Ebay itself doesn't sell anything but there are several vendors who use Ebay to sell coils.

I think he wants to know which vendor you used and what you paid for them.

The set I got that gave me SO many problems came from uneeksupply. $100 or less for a 10 pack.
I went through a year of trading around, swapping one or another for a new one and my truck never ran right till I went back to Motorcraft COPs.
In my case, it could be I'm trying to get to much out of them.
Most people DO have good luck with them in a stock application!

I can testify that the Globals are very good and have a lot of power. I had a problem with my truck. It would buck when you got on it and downshifted, happened when trying to get on the freeway. Did it twice, so I started babying it to keep it from getting so violent. I ordered a set of the Globals and the day they arrived, I tried my truck again. It ran perfectly without me ever installing the COPs. Never another recurrance as long as that box of COPs were in my garage. I sold the truck, now have the COPs left. I guess I should call the guy that bought the truck and see if he needs a set of COPs.
