Resetting Engine comp

According to my owners manual is says if you disconnect battery, for whatever reason, you have to warm up engine, let it idle for 1 minute or so, than put on air conditioner for 1 minute plus, then drive 10 miles to reset engine comp.
Is this true?

I've never done that. It will relearn the adaptive strategy fairly quickly, just drive it like you normally would.

If you follow the procedure in the manual, it will learn the idle control strategy more quickly. It will certainly learn it anyway if you don't do the extra steps.

There is a whole process the factory has for re-learning. Includes everything short of dancing naked at Yankee Stadium. I just drove mine for a while and it re-learned the programming, but took a while. I would do the warm up and run AC in driveway, though.

I've never done that. It will learn pretty quickly if you just drive it.

If you're just looking to reset the pcm then it might..... be but to clear the p1000 that happens due to the battery disconnect .......it takes a bit of driving also to clear that code.....

The only reason to force the relearn is if you are due for an emissions inspection.

Do not confuse the OBDII emissions systems monitors with the idle re-learn strategy. It appears that several are.
