Smile Where to start ????

Ok, after reading all the threads, I can honestly confess I don't know where to start with the performance mod's. Having a limited amount of play money to spend (thanks to the wife and kids) I need are some suggestions on what I should get and in what order.

My driving consists of mainly to and from work and baseball games (I umpire). I also tow a 23' boat on weekends.

Thanks in advance !!!!!! You folks are the best.

Don

P.S. Don't suggest unloading the wife and kids, I need the tax deductions

Hey dnaber... Flea here

So, you want more power? Well, no problem! Check out the Technical Articles section and you will find a home-made ram-air (kinda) setup. Cost? $0 (unless you need to buy the cable ties and/or tin snips) Next, you could go with a good cat-back exhaust system. They are relatively inexpensive, and offer some mileage and performance gains, as well as that awesome sound! I picked up mine for $296 total, pipe bending, and 2 24"x4" chrome tips out the back. The sound is great! Also, a throttle body spacer (about $60) can give you 5-8hp and 13 lb.-ft. torque. Finally, the best bang-for-the-buck mod is the Superchip. Usually gains 20+ hp and 25+ trq. They can run from about $200 to over $500 for a custom programmed flip-chip. All-in-all, anything you can do can be inexpensive, depending on how you do it, and where you get your parts from. If you decide that you may want some appearance mods first, check out www.ta4l.com ; it's where I most of my exterior stuff for under a grand.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, and I'm sure that the Superchips Distributor will be along before too long to follow up on my Superchip comment!

Have fun, and welcome aboard!

Here's my take in order I would do it in. All for less than $600.

Air Intake (pick one)

Superchip (accept no substitutes)

Performance muffler (just slip in place of stock, don't think I would do the whole Catback system again.

Thumbs up airbox mod

I also suggest the air box mod that is located in the technical articles section. My buddy did it to his truck and made me wish I had never wasted the money on a FIPK.

dnaber - I did the following mods (in this order) for about $750.00 including any professional installation.

1 - K&N Air Filter and airbox mod (see tech articles). Total cost - about $70.00 including filter, tin snips and all other materials.

2 - Borla SS Cat Back System (single in/single out, just like stock). This was kind of pricey at $340.00 + $70.00 install, but it looks great, and sounds so much better than the stock P.O.S. As far as performance, some gain, but you are not going to convert a 5k pound truck into a vette with some new pipes...

3 - Superchip. Total cost - $235.00 including shipping + 2 hours baking in the South Louisiana heat installing it. I have only logged about 60 miles on the truck since installing, but so far i think it was a great investment. Had i gotten this first, I may not have done the exhaust for a while. Biggest improvement is the shifting, not just the power increase.

Hope this helps.
