Starter runs with the motor

I'll notice if it's around 0* outside, my starter won't disengage and will run with the motor. I have to quickly turn key off, and restart. It may take 2 or 3 attempts before it disengages.

We may have 2 weeks of this weather, and truck is garage kept, so this happens at the jobsite. Along with the frigid temp, it takes a good windy day to chill it to this problem in 8 hours. I work construction and am out in timbuktu at times.

This has happened maybe 4 times now.

I have 140,000 miles on my F150 now, and was thinking here if it'd be wise to change this out before I'll need a tow.

Is this a sign of a sure soon failure? My knowledge of starters is limited.

Thanks in advance.

Starter solenoid is taking a dump. Usually self contained in the starter motor assembly. Replace the starter.

OK. Thanks ^

I used to be a Napa fan of batteries, starters, radiators, etc. Say 10 or more years ago ( probably more), when I had my 87 Bronco, I remember auto zone starters and alternators were something to avoid.... 3 years and toast.

What about today, any recommendations?
