Throttle Body - MAF Sensor or BOTH

OK Guys, I have a big delema.. I have a '97 Ford F-150 with a 4.6L V-8 and Auto trans. I am considering investing into a bigger throttle body and MAF. Has anyone upgraded to a bigger bore throttle body and if so have you seen any considerable power gains. If so, what size and what brand of throttle body.. Also, the MAF sensors that are offered for my application are pretty expensive.. I was needing some input from your guys, if you have upgraded the bigger MAF and if so what gains and what brand of MAF.. Are they worth the =PENNIES FOR THE PONIES= For that, has anyone done both.. I am considering doing both, but wanted to see if anyone has already done it. Thanks for all that reply..

the cheapest maf offered for your truck is made by bbk..the cheapest that I have seen..as far as tb and maf are concerned the invest isnt worth it unless your running a highly modded truck..you will notice the biggest difference only then..on a stock motor expect 5-10 hp maybe..Im just guessing but it will only be a very subtle improvement on a stock motor..Im sure the total on the 2 comes to about 800 dollars or so..take the money..invest in a quality exhaust( I did mine for abou $175), filtercharger($140) and a superchip(talk to Mike Troyer) ...if you have any money left over..depending on if you or a shop does the work.get some new gears..you won't gain any horsepower but you will get quicker accelaration and willl only lose top speed..however as most trucks don't see over 100-115 mph it wont make any difference to the avg. person..those four should be the 1st mods made to any truck in my opinion and will make the biggest difference other than a supercharger

Cool

I agree. The big three in performance gains is the K&N FIPK (or similar), Superchip, and exhaust. You'll probably won't see much improvement with the TB and MAF sensor unless you supercharge it.

Hey RTZracer,

I'll agree with the others on their analogy. In my case with all of the mods that I have made and still planning, yes they are worth the investment.

As far as expense, I shelled out some cash for them. Remember, you get what you pay for! I want good quality aftermarket parts when I'm modifying my truck.

Now, while most individuals may budget their funding to purchase performance parts based on information that's provided on this board and by other means. I'm the type that not only does this but I'll purchase parts to try. Let's say that I'm doing my own R&D with my truck.

If you look at my signature, the brand and size of both my TB and MAF are there. Hope this has been somewhat helpful.
