Are MSD coils a good replacement on a 99 5.4?

Ebay coils from Global or Uneek are as good as any and are dirt cheap. The number is DG508.

No such thing as performance gains. Will they work? sure. The cheap e-bay coils will work just as well.

Buy a 10 pack so you have a couple spares - they do have somewhat of an out-of-the-box failure rate. However, they do have a lifetime warranty. For under 100 bucks for 10, it's a no-brainer.

so after searching for stock ones found they are $95 a piece (cndn) from ford...I am unsure about buying a $12 coil only to pay shipping and maybe it not working...plus if 3 coils are bad and i still go with the ford ones it costs me the same as a set of MSD, which has more of a reputation and probably better warrenty.... im not dead set on msd just sharing my findings and opinion, by all means turn me in another direction... thanx guys!

Many of us swear by the cheap e-bay coils. I myself have tried "performance" coils and would only buy them on e-bay in the future. If you either, Buy the 10 pack (then you have 2 new spares for less then 1/4 the price of 1 new one from Ford) Or save your good old coils in case 1 fails.. Honestly I would never even waste my time trying to get them to honor the "lifetime" Warranty anyway..

If your having a misfire issue, replacing all 8 cop's is a better option. Fortune has it when you replace one, the rest will follow shortly after. So why buy one from ford or one from ebay..? All 8 from ford will run you over $700, a 10 pack from global will run you just over $100 with minimal failure. Plus you will have 8 of your old ones as spares. Hundreds of us run them on here with good results. You do the math. If you have a lot of miles on your stockers, consider it maintenance and replace all 8. BTW, motorcraft cop's have known failures out of the box as well as all other brands.

I agree with the ebay coils.
But if you feel better with the stock Motorcraft COPs, you can get them on rockauto online for about $43 bucks a piece plus shipping.

I recently bought 8 from Summit. Over $300. They have been running since May or 6k miles. Way too soon to eval. longevity. I'd definitely steer clear of Accel; do a search engine reliability query, and you'll find a boat load of dissatisfaction-- (attributable to low production QC in China).

Performance gain: Short of a Dyno, a safe bet on a 'performance gain,' i.e. H.P. would be an increase in fuel economy. None here. Maybe under under boost, or High RPM, but not in this 4.6 '02 stocker.

I'll let the forum know how these fare longterm, though if you can get others cheaper, as in upper thread, then I would.

My penny.
