4.6 Romeo vs Windsor in HP
I've just had someone tell me that if you add the same mods to the Romeo & the Windsor that you Would NOT get the same amount of HP!! I asked about adding the K&N air filter, cat-back muffler and a superchip. All 3 mods are the exact same. I know that these two engines are not built the same way but would that be enough to cause a noticable difference in HP gained from the mods??? Help, I need info to go back with!!

Tina,
I don't know the answer to your question, but I thought you might be interested to know I just acquired a '82 Mustang with the 351 Windsor and a 5 speed. It's going to be a project car, not quite sure where I"m going to go with it yet. I'll keep ya posted!!

Well, technically, no engine puts out the same power as any other. I wonder if they were just being **** (like us engineers can be) or if they have some inside info. Keep us updated on what you find.
BTW, which was supposed to be better?

The 8th digit of your VIN is the engine code.
W=Romeo
6=Windsor
Yes, the W really is the Romeo engine code- NOT Windsor.

The windsor looks like it's better than the romeo. Windsor has all the heavyer duty parts added. From what I read of the romeo it seems to use more gas, more oil and not last as long. But I seem to remember those were long term figures.
Can anyone get Mike over here to answer about HP????

How long term? So far, it's only got 32,000, but it's running real strong. No oil usage and economy seems to be pretty good (14/18) considering the way it gets driven.
Which one was supposed to respond to the mods with more HP?

HP and the mods to these engines is what I'm tring to find out!! The blanket statement the guy made to me was that "adding mods to these 2 engines caused different HP gains" I didn't know what he was talking about, so here I am asking.
The info I've read on these two engines is that the windsor was made to remove the problems that the romeo has had. There is even info here but you have to search back close to the beginning of the year.
NoMo, I like that picture of the dolfins, cool. I didn't see your 93 though Did I miss it somehow?

Tina,
My F-150 was manufactured in April of 99 and has the "Romeo" engine designation as identified by the VIN. I have checked into the mustang site (corral) and have found nothing regarding the engine differences and these guys speak HP from every breath. If in fact the Windsor was developed to replace the "faulty" romeo, it appears they have not ceased the manufacture of our problem child. I think someone is blowing smoke but now you have me thinking about this also.

Thanks. No, you didn't miss it. Initially, I was waiting to get it painted before taking/posting pictures. Well, it's been painted for a couple of months now, so I guess I'm just lazy. But, aren't you glad the new trucks have the ECU located where they do? It was kind of a pain getting the Superchip in the old '93. I plan on updating the entire site sometime. It may have to wait until this winter (or end of fishing weather) though.
BTW, Tim Alsop says "there should be a sticker on the driver's side cam cover that identifies the engine plant. Romeo has a round sticker, Windsor has a square sticker." There is some debate as to whether W=Romeo or not. I'm hoping Tim can clear that up for sure. Still no definitive "proof" of HP differences though.
