Seized alternator - Help!

Hey boys, any tips on freeing up a seized alternator? Vehicle sat for a few weeks and I think the moisture got to it. Can't get a socket or wrench on the pulley bolt due to lack of clearance, and when I crank the engine, the belt slips.

Who's got the magic?

An alternator is not that hard to remove on these engines. Pull it off and check it out. I suspect the only magic you will find is at an auto parts store in the form of a reman. Make sure the belt and belt tensioner are in good shape as well. good luck.

The space between rotor and stator is very small and rust bridges will be created between them if a vehicle sits and conditions are right. There is no magic, you need to spin that alternator manually.

How about a good shot of PB blaster in there to help loosen things up? Will that cause any problems with electrical generation if it does break free and begin spinning?

PB Blaster may be a bit too much - but I have used WD-40 around electrical before with no problems.

Thanks for the help guys. I was able to get some WD-40 into the guts of the alternator by use of a 1/4 inch tube, and then managed to get a socket on the pulley bolt and put some leverage on it. Got it freed up and the engine started and did the rest.

Thanks again.
