Post Spark Plugs

I'm going to change my spark plugs and would like to know the best way to get them out. How long it would take? Should I just take it somewhere to have it done.

Thumbs up

By all means, do it yourself. I watched my husband change 4 of my plugs, then had to leave the garage because his language had seriously deteriated. Changing the plugs didn't look hard, but the 4.6 engine has all this stuff placed on and around the plugs. Makes it fustrating. He did use a special tool to pull the plugs, it made it a lot easier. Keep the area "clean" when you do pull that plug!!

Tina,
Thanks for the info. Do you know what that "special tool" was. If it would make this job easier then I'll go out and get one today.

Lightbulb

The tool is a 3/8" drive (ex long) 6pt spark plug socket 6"long!! And of course he had a spark plug rachet to use the socket in. He also used a spark plug wire puller. I would think you could buy them at an auto parts store?? And I also think the husband said they were Ford only. But he has a tendency to say things just so he can buy it from Snap-On and pay mega-bucks. My dad had them in is tool box that I could have borrowed but the husband just had to have that new one NOW. After thinking about those 2-3 tools, you might be better off either taking it to a mech, or finding out how others may have done this with tools "usually" found in the garage. Sometimes I forget that my husband is a mech. and that the average person just doesn't have these nifty tools.
