Exclamation Surprising Fuel Mileage!

I can't believe this! I calculated out my fuel mileage for a highway trip I did, and to my amazement, I got 17.9mpg! I swear, I didn't do anything different other then not using A/C. My speeds were very high most of the time also. Around 120-140km/h on average, passing ever car usually with WOT. I'm thinking there must have been a good tail wind at my back. Has anyone else come close to getting this with a reg cab, short box, 5.4L? I also remember having great power for passing and climbing hills.

Just to show the accuracy of my calculation, I went 462km+10%(difference in circumference of tire rotation from stock)=508km=317miles. Fuel used is 67L=17.7Gal. 317/17.7=17.9mpg

I went to Kelowna BC a little while ago and got just around the same milage as you. Ya I also agree great climbing and passing power on hills. These trucks are great for trips. I had no complaints.

Smile Gas Mileage

With my 1997 4.6 4x4 travelling home to Cincinnati, the best I have averaged 22.5 miles to the gallon at 55mph. I can travel to and from Cincinnati on the weekends on a hair over an 1/8 tank. I am extremely happy with this mileage. When I bought my truck, one of my first mods was a tonneau cover which cut my mpg from 1/4 tank to Cincinnati (University of Cincinnati) down to a little over an 1/8th tank. The trip is about 80 miles one way. This has been my experience on gas mileage. LMT!

LowRider, your HD must get some good numbers being a 2 wheel. What do the HD's weight in at? Do you have any mods to the motor, or installed a tonneau?

1SweetF-150 4x4, Wow! Those are some awesome numbers you got. My very next purchase has to be a tonneau. One trip I made, I dropped my tailgate down to see if there was any improvements, but saw none. Coarse there was a bad head wind. What kind of tonneau do you have?

Thumbs up

Fordification,

On a recent trip from eastern Indiana to Harrisburg, PA put 335 miles on a tank with an mpg of 17.28! All time high in the year I've had my truck!

Listen to this. I picked my wife up from work yesterday when a person came out and slammed my truck for being a Ford and this and that. I was getting pissed but answered every question on what the truck had when they sneared and asked what engine I had. I told them I had the 5.4 Triton and they smiled and asked what it was like to get such low gas mileage. I laughed and told them I was getting 16 MPG mixed driving.

They went silent for a sec and said that I got better mileage then their Dakota and walked away sad! LOL I laughed so hard!!! Even my wife was giggling!

I love my truck!!!

I have a short trip to Wausau on the 28th through the 29the of this month so I should have pure Highway mileage by then!

Cool Fuel Mileage

Hey Fordification,
I have an Extang snap tonneau cover. (Lightweight, wind restrictive and easy to install!)

Swampview, great number! I hope for me that this wan't just a one time thing.

Dreamin, those Dakota's really do suck, in more ways then one! Way to slam em' back in there face.

1SweetF-150 4x4, I'm looking at picking up a fiberglass tonneau, so I can lock the box up. I can't wait to get one.
