Who makes a computer code scanner for a 97 F-150?
Does anyone know who makes a computer code scanner that will work on a 97 F-150?
Is the 97 F-150 computer part of the EEC IV system family? I see that Sunpro makes a computer scanner for Ford that works with the EEC IV system.
Does anyone know the wiring connection to connect to the data link for the computer?
Thanks....

Dear Ace,
No, all 1996 & later Ford vehicles are equipped with the EEC-V computer, which is OBD-II compliant. Only '95 & earlier Fords use the EEC-IV computer. Scanners are obviously made for both, but the EEC-V scanners are much more expensive. My local Ford/Lincoln dealer charges $79 to diagnose codes on the Ford SBDS machine, so that $120 figure was pretty high!
Good luck,

I recently went in search of a scanner and came up empty handed. The "check engine" light came on after I put some new plugs in and failed to properly tighten one of the plugs. After I corrected the problem the light stayed on even though the engine ran fine. I went to four different auto part stores and finally one of the employees told me that he didn't think that there were any scanners made for vehicles after '95 due to something with California laws or something (he lost me and besides, I live in TX). I asked a local shop what it would cost to hook it up to their computer and they wanted $120 just to tell me what was wrong. Kind of steep for a students budget, so I disconnected the battery for about a half an hour and the check engine light never came back on. Good Luck

I just received a new JC Whitney catalog and they have just put in a code scanner for EEC-V. Its the new Auto X-ray scanner. They have had it in there for the EEC-IV for a long time but they have just put in the new one. Not to cheap though. It sells for a little over $300. I don't have the catalog with me but if your interested send me an e-mail and I'll look it up for you. kurt.jordan@worldnet.att.net
