Gas consumption at idle

How much gas does a 5.4 2v burn at idle. Like gallons per hour at idle with the a/c on

By the book, it's suppose to use 0.6 gallons per hour at idle with A/C running. Not all engines are created equal so this is a ballpark number.

I think that .6 per hour is a very VERY conservative number. I drove my gf's silverado to work for a couple day,,, she needed a real truck for a minute,, SOOO I reset her average gas mileage just for ****s and giggles.. I do asphalt/construction work so lunchtime I sat in the truck for a half hour and ate with the a/c running, cooling off from the 112 degree heat index. Started the truck averaging 13.8 mpg..... when I shut it off it was down to to 8.7 mpg. Of course this is just an observation and doesn't show long term anything.

x2. My 4.6 2v does the same thing here in the Southern heat. Gas just doesn't seem to last if there is alot of idling....

Just noticed you live in OB. Howdy, neighbor! I live in Byhalia and work in OB.

My GMC Van uses at least a gallon and a half running my carpet cleaning machine. it runs at about 1500 rpm to run my stuff. Got a 350 the last year they used that engine in the vans.. I pay allot of money on gas these days..

If it's going to be idling for more than one minute, it's cheaper to turn it off.

Do you guys notice if your truck is sitting down hill you can almost see the gas gauge go down! When I am sitting at an up hill angle at idle the gauge gradually goes up. What is up with that?
