Swapping engines wouldn't be that hard, really. The Tranny's on the other hand would be. You would have to swap wiring, computers, drive shafts would have to be custom made most likely. I wouldn't go to a lower year unless it was really low miles and all.

then don't mess with the 4r100, have your 4r70 replaced with a built 4r75

yes

Forged rods
higher compression pistons
better cams (probably not super aggressive racing cams but ones intended for truck use)
24# injectors
long tube headers
ported heads
rock solid tune

Find you a good machine shop you can trust block prep is very important when rebuilding a modular engine cylinder wall bore and piston clearence can make a difference from a great overhaul and a waste of time read your manuals and piston to wall clearence and have bore checked before doing anything to the engine remember you are dealing with a small bore and the cylinder wall clearence has to be held down or you will have lower engine noise. Make sure the machine shop has done these engine before had a high end race shop cost me thousands because they had never done no more than basic work on this kind of engine, when you push for HP they have to be right and the shop can't just take a guess like they did with me. And on the second go round thing aren't what they could have been, so get it right the first time just wanted to share my exspereince with you so you don't suffer my disappointment.
