I'm about to hit 193xxx and no engine or tranny problems yet on my 4.6. Just with it had more power.
I've replaced just about everything else on the truck it seems

I've only got 52K on my 281, but it still runs tip top.

it varies, but i change my oil (motorcraft 5w-20 6qts and fl820s filter) every 3k miles and sometimes i'll get a little bit over 3qts, sometimes right under 3qts.

it is very obvious i'm burning oil, because at a red light if i'm waiting a good while, when i take off you can visibly see the white/blue smoke shoot out of the tail pipe.

if you're burning oil, you should keep it topped off until you're due for the oil change, no need to make it worse then it is

i'll just be wasting money....
i change my oil at least 1-2 times a month. however, if work is slow or i'm going somewhere far from home, i'll top it off just to be safe.

Yea, they tend to do that when you use the wrong oil.

Because everything doesn't get lubed. Your hearing noises correct ?

There yuh go.

I'd follow the manual, unless you know better. (?) Maybe you do.(?) Regardless, it's your truck. Do what you think is right.

with the 5W20 the noise was twice as loud. every triton motor ive ever heard at idle in park the 4.6L the 5.4L and the 6.8L all make a slight knock at idle in park. been told because its free bearing? or somthing. but the second you put it in gear it goes away.
