Sometimes I don't put 3000 on in a year.
Dang, - 3000 a year ? You need someone to drive that one around for yuh ? I may be for hire, - if that's the case.

I used RP because I was convinced that it reduced friction better than the other synthetics out there, therefore reducing extra drag on the engine and increasing power, and then of course reducing wear. Suppossibly, it has a much higher "film strength", so that's why I decided to switch to that particular oil. I was and am interested more in the performance of the oil, than I am about how long it will last. I don't need a oil to last me 7500 plus miles, and even if it can, I won't feel comfortable going that long on any oil. I would rather spend the money and change my oil more often.

Use the Ford 5w20 and Ford filter.

I use the Ford Filter because of the Cam Phasor problems and I use the 5W20 from Ford because of the tests done on BITOG forums. Ford makes some damned good oil.

I have a 2002 4.6 liter. The truck had 16000 miles when I bought it, do all my own oil changes. I used MC 5w20 up until about 85000 miles. I then switched to RP 5w20 and currently have 149000 miles on it. No problems. I only drive 3 miles one way to work so I don't put many miles on it, but still change the oil roughly every 3-4 months. I doesn't get warmed up in the morning and short trips aren't great. Ideally I would like to send the oil off to be analyzed just to get a better idea of when it does start to break down.

Ford does not make oil. Most companies buy in bulk, It can be from Esso-Suncor-Shell. I have friends the work at the refineries in Sarnia Ontario. If you notest some of the bottles are the same. Some produce different label. I have use 10/30,5/30 anyoil and Fram/ Canadian Tire brand in all my vehicles for the last 40 yrs from my old man. From my 73 351 clev stang and 66 Shelby to my 82 Tbird, 94 Aero and my wife's Explorer now my 00 5.4 F150. All the full time runners had 300ks .As well FinL built race cars since the early 50s, and always said KISS.
No high tech stuff for me. The military runs 15 /40 in all their vehs also.

Your right ford doesn't make oil they just specify what they want and buy it. They dont even bottle it. The military uses 15-40 in everything is true they also have a full maintenance staff that can and does tear stuff down and fix it over and over. They run em hard and put em away wet and expect stuff to break. People who dont have a full staff of mechanics might not want to do what the military does..

I believe Motorcraft oil is made by Conoco/Phillips.

I used RP because I was convinced that it reduced friction better than the other synthetics out there
If that's your criteria, Amsoil Signature Series is even better than RP.

And if they do, I'm going to be using Valvoline again.
