Engine went bad under warranty

I have an F150 2007 V8 4x4. 44k on it. The engine got some metal shaving in it. Since it was under warranty The ford dealership changed:
  • The engine assembly with a re-manufactured one.
  • Also changed the exhaust manifold gaskets
  • Intake manifold gaskets.
  • Replaced thermostat bypass tube gaskets.
  • Replaced thermostat and gasket.
  • Replace intake, manifold assembly with new one
  • Transferred injectors, throttler body, PVC, sensor
  • Replaced blender actuator, and all relative parts

Should they have put a brand new engine in, instead of a re-manufactured one. I hope nothing else goes wrong. The bumper to bumper warranty expired. I still have the 60K power Tranny warranty!

I have had it a few days, and so far, it seems to be running ok!

You could drive out of a dealership with a brand new truck and blow the engine 1 week later - and it will get a reman.

Years ago had a Chevy Caprice that developed a severe vibration. Chevy dealer said .... after several tries to fix, that they thought crank was cracked. They put a reman engine in and it ran way better. In another Caprice they put a reman 700R4 trans, it was much better than stock. Both were police cars.

Unfortunately after researching the reman engines that a couple local builders here in the DFW area build for Ford I found out that they are really only building them to last the 3yr/30K that they generally warranty them for. I was told that they do things like bore/power hone cylinders to different sizes, for ex. they will have 2 cylinders at +0.01 and 3 at +0.02 and another 3 at +0.03 over just to save time in the machining process. Also there is no balancing, not even a bench( Detroit ) balance. These shops are flying through these builds so they are making mistakes from time to time.
I guess if your not intending to do any power adders then the reman motor will likely work fine and run a long time for you. Good luck, at least you have another 56K left on your powertrain warranty. Just make sure you use nothing but motorcraft filters and the correct oil. If your back again a year from now and you can't document the service history they will look for reasons not to warranty the motor again.

The motor went bad because I went for an oil change, not at ford! Right after I got low oil pressure! Not sure what happened at the oil change place! But I am sure it caused the metel shavings! At least ford gave me a new engine!

If that's the case and you wanted a NEW motor than going after the oil change place is where you should have started.......thankfully that dealer covered you.....probably didn't know the whole story but I think you owe them some oil changes now.....
