Swap a '98 4.6 for a '92 351 Windsor?

Ok so I have 98 extended cab short bed, 4x4 automatic with the 4.6. The power sucks and I am wanting to build the motor and put a 5.0 stroker with cam, heads, etc. After pricing what it would cost I realized it was shade to much. My dad has a '92 351 Windsor motor sitting on the shelf he said we would put in it providing it would bolt to my bellhousing. My question is whether or not it bolt up. Any help is appreciated.

Not a practical swap. The bells are different along with so many other things. It can be don but its really so much easier to either find a good 4.6 or swap to a 5.4

^^^^X2! Also the older motor in the truck would cause it to fail emissions test. Don't know if that would be an issue but its worth mentioning.

Thanks for mentioning the emissions test twinskred but that isn't a concern. I understand what all is involved with switching the motors but I'm trying to find out how different the bolt patterns are. I've have read else where that a 4.2 tranny would bolt to the 351, does anybody know if that is true?. I really don't want a 5.4 as a know people that have had em and have had several problems with the coils on the spark plugs goin out.

You would put up with all the hassle and cost just because you think a 5.4 might present a few issues?
Better re-think that one.
Good luck.

Well if it makes a difference the 351 will be carbureted and we are going to run the tranny via a stand alone computer. Don't know if you all have priced what it cost to build a 4.6 or 5.4 into a high performance motor but I have priced it for my 4.6 and its ab 9k. That's with trick flow heads, Comp Cams cams, 5.0 stroker kit, MSD system, BBK headers, and JLT intake. That isn't including the cost of having the block machined and trued and having the tranny rebuilt and a new torque converter. In all you are close to 10k, I'm pretty sure I can put the 351 in it cheaper. I do understand that you would prolly have to modify the motor mounts but that isn't a biggy for my dad and I or any other fabrication that would have to be done.

YES TAC is does make a difference.
Why didn't you say that before this and stop waisting other peoples time with a misleading request.
Go ahead and do it.
Use the earlier trans so there is no boltup issue. The 4.2 is too weak to use for such and advanture
You know you have to fab all the rest up anyways.
Good luck.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to cause confusion. I didn't think about it until I got to seeing everyone flip out about it and then it hit me you all were thinking of a 351 that was fuel injected. So then a 4.2 tranny is to weak even if I have it rebuilt and put stronger internals in it?

I wouldn't even waste the time or energy on a carb'd 351, when you can build a faster 5.4 for less $$$$$$$$$$$

OK tarajerame, would you please tell me how I can build a 5.4 for less money because I have yet to find good quality parts at a reasonable price compared to a 351W. Especially when I have a 351W already and would have to buy a 5.4

You have to keep your eyes open!
This one just ended today,(reserve not met) I'm sure he will re-list it.
Only thing it doesn't have is a stroker crank.
But you can make up for that by throwing more boost to it.
He wanted $6150 for it.
