Some of you guys are killing me here Im not here to pick fights with anybody, I came on here for some freindly infor on the crank. So whats the final verdict on the crank, is it forged or not? SBF, yeah sorry bout that used to being at the track and most everyone knows what you mean SBC, SBF BBF come on you know what Im talking about

Ill build it, tune it and see where it stands on RWHP, Im aiming for 500 with what I listed for mods. If it hits it great I did a good job and hit another mark set. If not then oh well, won't be the first time I was off on something.

Just FYI, the heads and cams will make all the differance in the world if the combo is rite. You would be amazed at what Ive personaly seen work and not work when it comes to making power on the dyno with motors Ive worked on and freinds motors to include my buddy's NHRA Pro Stock stuff.

If the combo is off the whole thing is off, but when its on look out.

Thanks, I always appreciate knowing my hard work is noticed. I bought it back in November of 2002 right before I shipped out for Iraq. After I got out of the hospital in March of 2004 I went back to work at my civilian job and started working on the car again. It was a long road but well worth it when it was done. Next season we will spray it with up to a 300 shot and see how deep in the 8's it will go. Right now mid 9's at over 140 in N/A trim out of my little yates headed 427 is fun enough.

Im trying to petition the NHRA to let me start a program to take disabled combat veterans (because thats what I am) for either 1/8 mile or 1000 foot hits in the car to hopefully help them in the mental healing and keep their spirits up.

I would love to try the same thing after my engine has quit. Please keep us updated on how its going. I would to know how much power you can actually get out of the 5.4. And is yours a 2 valve or 3?

bigjohnson,
I'm in no way trying to start a fight.
These other guys were just messing with me for not knowing the abbreviations you were using.
I am in no way familiar with any of them you used. And don't know much about the older Ford motors at all. lol I do know you can make BIG power with them.
The highest power 5.4 Ive ever heard of on here in N/A form is 350RWHP. And this guy went the extra mile on all of it.
The highest power 5.4 Ive seen are 1000 or so RWHP and that's with a turbo.

As for the crank,
it's just like I said. The only way your going to tell if it's forged or not is take apart the motor.
The years that the forged cranks went in the 5.4s are all over the place. Unless you start with a gen 2 Lightning motor and I'm pretty sure they all got forged cranks.
My stock 03 supercrew came with a forged crank, but I bought a built short block with one in it anyway. .I have the old one sitting in my garage.
If shipping wasn't so high on something like that I could give you a good deal on one.
Otherwize, you can get one on summit for $350.

Cool thanks, I will find out for sure this winter when I tear it down. I will keep everyone posted on how its coming when I get started, as for now looking into swapping the cobra over to E85 or E90 and see if I can save some money over the C-14 Im running rite now. With that said, anyone build their 5.4 for E85? Might look into that option also for the power pick up and octane rating.........anyone do it yet with their blown 5.4?

you're a few years behind the power curve, but yeah it's been done, several times I hope your fuel system will be up to the task

God luck with the project. glad to see your going after dreams that are positive rather then giving up like some.. Thank you for sacrificing for us all.. Nice Mustang. Looks pretty quick for a Windsor powered car..

If a 255 in tank won't be enough (have not checked into it yet)then I can always use my spare Aeromotive A1000 pump but Id rather keep it for the car incase I ever need it.

If you have any thoughts on the fuel system's you guys are running please chime in as the A1000 would be overkill for my daily driver.

I run two Walbro 255lph pumps in my setup.
You can use a Lightning fuel hat to make the install a little essayer.
The Lightning came stock with a dual pump setup in the tank.

Check out Fore Precision. They have the complete fuel system ready to drop in. You will need twin 255lph for the power you want. I have the Fore system and I'm pleased with it. You may be able to piece something together using Lighting parts though.

Thanks for the input guys, I will check into the complete kit (Fore preciision)first just for the simplicity of the install and gathering parts.

It's not just the pump...

E85 needs more fuel to make power than 93 octane fossil fuel does
