got almost 200000 miles on this truck it is misfiring very bad can even smell a little fumes while driving machanic fixed it about 1 year ago it ran like a new truck my father likes to drive it around the farm every day now it has gone back to doing the same thing it also acts like it's losing power but i think it is in the skipping................any help would be greatly appreciated.....
Start with the basics, plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor and pcv. Use only quality parts. The distributor cap in particular needs to have brass/copper contacts or expect failures quick. The aluminum contacts heat up and burn quick. If it's smoking black from the tailpipe, it's probably the MAP sensor gone bad but it can also have a vacuum leak which causes the MAP to read wrong. The MAP is on the passenger side firewall and has a vacuum line to it. That truck also has the thin film ignition system and they are prone to failure. It's the black/grey box on the front of the distributor. Usually when they start to die the engine cuts off or starts to miss. It keeps getting worse as time goes by until it quits running and won't start. If it runs great cold but then goes to crap after it warms up, it could be the TFI starting to go bad.
