35+ MPG on a V8?? It's possible...
I just came across this site while I was surfing the net for another topic. Gas Saving Equipment... The Carburetor: What is it?
Supposedly it's possible, read it and decide for yourself.

Back in the late 60's, I heard second-hand about the Kendig carburetor installed on a 327 Chevy pickup which consistently got 35 mpg. I believe the inventor, Kendig, had a patent on it, but it didn't go anywhere because of the "big oil company money resistance". The carburetor supposedly was extremely reliable as it had only 2 internal moving parts.
Sounds good in theory. Conventional carbs are not set up to handle gaseous fuels. A LPG or NGV injection system could be modified to store gaseous fuels. The gasoline stored in a conventional tank could be heated up down the line and feed into the engine using that system. The kicker would be the heater. I could imagine the first crude ones. "My truck either gets 200,000MPG or it blows up!"
or "this is my 10th truck and only my 2nd gallon of gas"
