Hesitating real bad
98 F150 V8 4.6 has been hesitating really bad for about two months now. I have added Techron to it and it seemed to be a little better and the guy at the auto parts store told me to try some Lucas. Well I did and I can not say it was the Lucas that made it worse??? I have been using gas with Techron and had to gas up at a non ethanol place while on my trip
On my way back home from a 120 mile trip my check engine light started to flash on and off for about 45 minutes. It would flash 14 times and then go off. On again for 26 and so on and then quit for the last 10 minutes home. My check engine light is solid now and has been on for over a year. I was told it was the sensor for the EGR and I did not need to replace it??
What can be wrong?

Alright, go to Auto Zone, get it scanned for free. Write all DTC numbers down as they come up. Stay right there with the guy as he scans and ask for codes. It's a 4six so your going to have to start with a plug inspection most likely or just change them if it's been awhile. Plugs, wires and possibly coil packs (2).
Also , write the EGR code down. Post cdes here.

You can do like this guy did and pull the green line off the valve and plug it. To determine a EVR fault as well. -

Check the plug chamber for debris, coolant, oil or water. Blow it out w/compressed air to determine this isn't the cause.
303 is cylinder #3, passenger side.

Suck test the EGR with a separate piece/section of hose. While the engine is running, suck on the hose like your drinking a milkshake. If the engine almost stalls, then the valve is still operational and your EGR plenum ports aren't totally plugged yet (which is a 4six common problem/ the plenum ports 2). If the engine has no reaction, then the ports are plugged or the EGR diaphragm is blown.
