Cleaning Help/info Needed

Hey guys, my engine is running a little sluggish. It was completely red with mud when i bought it and has been since i've owned it. im really nervous about washing it myself because i cant afford to fix anything i might would damage with the water. I really think this needs to be my first step to help my truck regain some power and performance. Should i take it to a shop and have them do it for me? is there an easy safe way to do it myself? any help or input would be much appreciated. thanks

There's allot of people who say they wash them all the time and don't have problems. I'm not one of them, I tried it once and had coil problems right after. So I clean mine by hand anymore. If you do it, stay away from the plug chambers and coils. The chambers fill with water and it stays in there for awhile. After you wash it, blow it with compressed air. I don't advise doing this because of the problems I had. Yea, your taking a big chance hosing it down IMO, but you can get away with it, if your lucky.

Make sure your inner wheel well splash guards are still there. They fall off with time. Mine did, I ended up making my own out of mud flap material and plastic push pins. Made a world of difference in the engine compartment.
