i hope it wasnt a injector/sensor issue because im putting the same ones back in- thought that it was only the 05 5.4s with issues.

id be surprised if my spark plug that shot out didnt have something to do with all of this. it was the same cylinder that shot out a plug, a month later the next plug exploded and now got valve damage and low compression. prolly from fragments of the blown up plug flying around in the chamber.

well in that case it might have been caused my fragments not being cleaned out before the motor was run again..

i must have a bad luck...

my transmission is slipping bad. but when i turn o/d off it drives fine.

i did some digging, sound like it could be a cooked or broken od band. or one of many other things....

sounds like i new tranny

And my 4wd HI has been kicking out and making funne sounds

And did i say i need my motor taken out to fix

i only have 85k on truck

i quess this is what FORD TOUGH means, should have bought a tundra.....
although i do have a bad habit of breaking everything i touch

Fix trans

i quess im going to try to get the tranny fixed first.
going to the local ford dealer and let them rape me. $130 to run a diagnostic. they said it sounds more electrical then mechanical-i think otherwise. i have found people online that got it fixed without dropping the tranny, just the pan.

called 2 local tranny shops and they said it sounds like i need a total rebuild for the tranny. they had no experience with fried overdrive band or the broken servo clips. the one guy quoted me 16oo for rebuild. i asked about adding clutch packs and he said he didnt know of any for the 4r70e.

autozone has rebuilt 4r70w trans for $1200 with 3yr warantee but none for the 4r70e. what a bummer

i can get a rebuilt torque converter for a 5.4 for 130 at autozone, which i think is a good investment if it can save me from buying another tranny sooner then otherwise. fyi the 4.6 TC with a 5.4 will put the torque output passed what the 4r70e is rated.

123engines did what i asked and sent me the timing set and cover installed free of charge. now i got to send mine back to rockauto and have to get rid of the timing cover i got on ebay. 02-03 5.4 timing cover for sale. make offer

update:

i tried to gamble with my warantee people- PREFERED WARRENTIES INC. preferred my A$$. they VOID ed my powertrain warrantee because of my 275/60/20 tires. stock f150 s come with 275/55/20. im pissed, i feel like choking somebody. i figured they wessel out of it some how. already did complaint to the BBB.

total rebuild cost estimated 2000 for rebuilt trany. i think i got new clutch packs. looking back i should have swapped in a 4r75e and just got a new tuner- diablo/sctx3 to adjust for the OSS. output speed sensor.

I would never buy one of those warranty's. They search for any reason possible to deny you then if they absolutely cant find a reason not to fix, they have people fix stuff so cheap it cant possibly hold together for long..

i left him a message but he had some stuff going on and by the time i got his message it was too late. by that my time my trans was ripped apart i was gambling with the warrantee people and ford.

the ''rebuild'' came out to just less than 1600. it was mostly a clip, servo, and overdrive band. they said the clutch packs were fine. i dont know if they removed they tranny or just the pan.

on ebay i found a 4r75e with 7k on it for 800 shipped or best offer. i contacted diablo and they confirmed that they can burn a program to compensate for the OSS. next time i think im going to go this route. fyi the +07 f150 4.6 come with the 4r75e. i think they might be 3 valve motors though.

+1. aftermarket warrantee = SCAM.
i know somebody else that had similiar horror story. she couldn't come up with all the oil change receipts so they voided the warrantee. it was a dodge 1500, the trany and motor went at different times. it SHOULD have been covered.

Lightbulb people that have swapped engines in f150..

so still need to put the 5.4 in. driving the truck the way it is sucks. sounds like ****, runs like ****, and i get maybe 11-12 mpg. i was going to have my local mechanic put it in but i think they might have ****ed it up to begin with. its possible they didnt clean they cylinder out good enough when the insert was installed, although they have done several inserts before. i think it is a/would have been a good idea to run the engine without the spark plug in to blow out any remaining debree. they used the modifed shop vac attachment in the kit. In addition he is a ''chevy'' guy and was not very enthused about the 4.6 to 5.4 swap, or workin on any ford for that matter.

i talked to flemington ford about the 5.4 swap and they said it sounds doable as well as the 4r75 swap. they claim that they could put the 5.4 in for less than $2000 which sounds reasonable. prolly around same price as my mechanic would do it for plus they have all the right tools and can grab parts right off the shelf.

i am considering doing the swap myself. i am running low on funds and have plenty of time considering i recently got laid off my union job. i am a welder/metal worker. i am confident that i can do it myself but would like some input. is it worth the 2g??? i went to school for autobody. i have done basic stuff like spark plugs, belts, brakes, exhaust, leveling kits, shocks, struts, replaced doors, hoods, fenders. ive installed many stereo systems although im not very electrically inclined. im used to working on smaller 2 strokes and 4 stroke bikes/quads. i have a large 2 bay garage with many tools. my dads dad was a old school mechanic. i have access to a cherry picker and orderd a haynes/chilton manual. i have read ''JMC s swap bible'' extensivley in addtion to using the search function.

should i go for it<<?>>

yahh or nahh

Go for it!

If you don't have one, the one thing I found that was invaluable during the swap was an engine leveler. Getting the 4.6 out wasn't that bad, but sticking the 5.4 in things were a little tighter. Almost had to position engine at a 90 degree angle to get it in. and turned to the side a little. Just take your time, read through the swap notes, and buy a chiltons.

If you have nothing else going on you should have it running within a couple of days. I only had the evenings after work and managed to get it together in about a week. Or about 14 hrs of actual work.
