2000 F150 spark plug problem!

I am thinking of purchasing a 2000 F150 Sport, 5.4L, 84,000 miles from this young couple that was selling it for $8,000 but due to a problem that erupted they are now selling for $3500. The problem is they wanted to give it a fresh tune up before selling it so they took it to their mechanic and while he was replacing the spark plugs one of them broke off in the head. He said he will need to take the heads off and replace all the factory spark plugs with brand new aftermarket ones. He said he will charge $650 for the repairs. The couple just told me that if I give them $3500 I can take it off their hands and they will have their mechanic fix it if I pay the $650. So in total I am paying $4150 for this truck. My question to you guys is if I do have the mechanic take the heads off the engine and replace the factory spark plugs with aftermarket ones will I have this problem in the future? I am thinking the factory plugs are **** and the aftermarket ones are better and will not break as long as I replace them in the time specified. Please help me I'm not sure what to do, this is a beautiful truck and I would love to buy it but i don't want to be told the mechanic cant fix it and I will be out $4150.

Something weird is going on. The plug won't break in a 2000 in such a way as not be able to be removed. You can't get a better plug than Motorcraft for that engine. Also, a mechanic will remove and replace a head for $650? uh uh

What do you suggest I do? They said their mechanic will just take the heads off to remove the spark plugs not to replace them all together.

I would get someone that knows what it takes to change the plugs to go take a look at it.

The biggest problem with thses heads is keeping the plugs in. The spit out because there are not enough threads. I guess it's possible soemone JB Welded the plugs in, but in that case, you would need new heads.

Before I bit the bullet I would got talk to the mechanic and probably bring a mechanic of my own. They could be pulling your leg and you could need new heads. And 650 to remove heads new plug installation new head gaskets seems low, especially if he does a good job and replaces head bolts while he is at it.

If that is what the mechanic said, I would not allow him to work on it. Get another mechanic to look at it and determine what the real problem is.

Tell them $2500 take it or leave it. Sounds like the $1000 dollars you save might come in handy.
