07 5.4 Knock when warm

I have noticed my truck lately makes a noise likes it knocking more prevelant lower in the engine compartment on both sides. Runs great, oil looks new and its full. It does not sound like a mechnical knock, but something else. Maybe exhaust?

It only does this when its warm and I have been driving it alot. Notice it when shutting it down today in my driveway. I left it running and got out and went inside.

The most important thing regarding engine noises is to first locate the noise. Purchase a mechanics stethescope (Harbor Freight $5.00) and use the probe to check at the oil pan, front cover, cam covers, etc. Once you locate the approximate location things get a lot easier as far as diagnoisis goes. If the noise is at the front cover area check the FEAD components (alt. p/s, pulleys, tensioner etc) by removing the serpentine belt. if the noise is gone with the belt removed then suspect one of these components. If the noise is behind the front cover then suspect the VCT system or chain tensioners. Noise at oil pan, possible rod bearing, wrist pin. Noise under cam cover, valve train component and so forth, Also perform a search using the search button above. Type in "5.4 knock" for example and you will get a wealth of information from others experiencing this condition and what they have found. Good luck
