4.6L Battery Light at WOT

Hi everyone. I've got a 97 F150 with the 4.6L engine, and 101,000 miles. It has not had the 100,000 mile service yet, but that should not affect the following situation. Occasionally when I go wide open throttle, the red battery light will glow dimly or flicker on and off. It is not on during any other times and there is no pattern to the glow or flicker. It does not seem to affect the pickup, with no trouble starting or running. The battery is only a couple years old, and the connections are tight. I have been too occupied with the road to glance at the voltmeter, so I can't give any information about that.

I'm not really concerned about it, but am just curious what would cause a condition such as this?

Thanks,

Kevin

Same thing happened to me last year - it's the alternator starting to go. The dash voltmeter doesn't respond quick enough, but if you plug a DVM into the lighter socket you will see it drop from 14 to 12 volts when the light comes on. Mine would pop the battery light on when it hit 4000 rpm.
