Angry Blown motor 04 f150 4.6 need advice

my 04 f150 stx 4x4 4.6 w/ 83k took a dump. long story-still owe $800 to ford stealership. truck still not fixed. heads are not apprenretly not covered under my powertrain warantee. looking at $3-4g for heads replaced.

question 1.) will a 01-03 5.4 2 valve motor bolt in place 0f my 04 4.6 2 valve?
i understand that i should use the the 5.4 TC and need 5.4 headers. a motor swap is looking like a better option then new heads for around the same price.
i have not found anything on this swap. any information would be greatly apprecaited. thanks in advance

Any 2v 5.4 preferably 99 up to currant will fit. They still use 2v 5.4's in Econoline vans. If you could find a totaled van with very low miles that would be a nice way to go.

If heads are not part of the powertrain I don't have a clue what they are! Is your extended powertrain warranty a Ford warranty or a 3rd party warranty?

That's a truck load of BS! The heads have to be covered under the power train warranty. Never heard of such a thing, unless you bought that warranty off a guy in the alley down on 5th street and he gave you a good deal because it was his last one. I would NEVER buy ANY extended warranty except a factory one. The rest of 'em spend all their time telling you why it's not covered. "Did the failure happen on Tues.?" "We only cover failures that happen on Fri.'s after 11:12 PM" Stay away from aftermarket warranties PERIOD and any dealer that would tell you heads weren't covered under a power train warranty.

I was hoping that the OP was going to post what was wrong with the heads as the 04 4.6 came with the new and improved head design. Heads have not been an issue with the new design. Regardless of warranty issues, I'd still like to know what happened that they are a warranty issue. They're not known to crack, spitting plugs went away with the longer threads, valve train is solid, no cam phaser issues as they don't have any, no seal failures that I'm aware of, no lubrication issues. So what went wrong?

I think there must be something in the "long story" that needs to be said..........

Wow, for 3 or 4K you could have a nice set of ported and polished heads , High performance cams and installed.

Just put a 5.4 in it!

Smile follow up

the long story.( i had written it out then computer crashed, here it is again).got truck over 2 years ago with 55k. loved it,although it could use some more power. 1 year ago truck started missing i brought it to ford dealer- came out to be miss on cyl 6. bad coil/plug. they wanted close to $600 for repair for 1 coil/plug with basic 60k maintance-air/fuel filter. also have small tranny fluid drip leak by cooler line that looks like the line was already spliced into it.still have not fixed that yet. I denied services and had to pay $100 for diagnostic. i installed 8 new ebay coils and autolite ap106 platnium plugs with new air+fuel filer. i wish i knew to run motorcraft plugs only. truck ran great for about a year until i was on my way to work at 5 in the morning when i heard a pow then a major exhaust leak and power loss. come to find out i blew spark plug 1 out. got it towed to my local shop paid 2 bills for a insert installed. truck ran good for about a month when it started to miss again. checked codes with my superchips programmer had 7 codes p0300, p0301, p0306, p0316,p0553, p01000, p0336. i then replaced plug/coil on cyl 1 + 6. the 1 plug was totally blown apart. never seen anything like it. ill try to post pics. truck ran the same. bad hesitation on at idle, power surges. brought it to another ford dealer to fix ,hoping the my warrantee would cover it.(about to expire) for the warrantee to *maybe* cover it i would have to pay 12 hrs to break down motor to find out exactly what was damaged .it is a 3rd party waranttee i purchased at a sister honda dealership when i purchaded truck . ford said spark plug was stripped again!. they fixed that and then found other problems. did leak down and compression test. cyl 1 valve damage. they also informed me that the head had 2 inserts already installed. they think something fell in the cylinder 1 and damaged the plug and valve. i brought a buddy that worked at the dealer for 16 years. i only ended up paying $300. so thats where im at. est. to repair valve/ head is 20 some hrs labor and $40 valve. and ill still have a motor that seems compromised.

my plan is to bolt in a low milage 5.4 2v and tear my 4.6 apart and hopefully the waranttee people will reimburse me something. might even cover whole swap. wishful thinking.

my questions..
1.)what could cause that spark plug to blow up?, i was thinking a injector problem.

2.)so a 99 and up 5.4 2v(even lightning) will bolt in place of my nbs 4.6 2v no problem?, i have yet so see somebody complete swap, i know to use 5.4 headers+Tc and use the 4.6 oil pan+ ecu. i know my tranny should be built up as well along with custom tune. Does anybody have any pointers, comments, concerns? fyi i have read the 4.6 to 5.4 swap threads but that is for 97-03. the 04 have the the fly by wire and maybe different wiring/sensor issues.

3.) would mustang 4.6 romeo 2v heads bolt on. ie patriot stage 2 heads
thanks guys
