After reading the forums, I read to change out the coils and change out the fuel injectors for each cylinder that is misfiring. I took it over to WalMart and had them clean the fuel injectors for around $20 BUCKS and the problem went away.

Hope this helps you and others. This is a cheap first step to take to see if it helps your situation.

Founf one to. Amsoil fuel system conditioner and cleaner $8. Use as needed.

Had the exact same problem with it skipping under heavy acceleration. My 06 started skipping at around 72,000 miles. Took it to the shop and had them replace the COP and spark plug on the #6 cylinder. It helped, but it didn't fix it. A few weeks later my CEL came on because it was skipping bad again. It turned out being the #1 cylinder this time. But instead of replacing the COP and the spark plug, I just decided to replace the COP. The skipping never went away and I took it to the FORD dealer after the CEL came on again because of the skipping. This time it was the #8 cylinder. So anyhow, I replaced the COP for the #8 cylinder and had them replace all of the spark plugs except for #6 (had it replaced already). Now it runs like a champ.

Good grief - when the plugs and cops start dropping like that, just replace them all! If you buy a whole set of cops on Ebay, it's very cost effective - about $80 for 2v and $125 for 3v.

Ive got the same issue, At 80k i replaced 4 coils and all the plugs, it ran well for a while. now at 120k i just took it to ford and they charged me $250 for a COP and a new sparkplug and it helped a bit but the issue was not completely fixed now I put my tuner back in the truck for the first time since about 110k and the issue is 95% gone with just a tiny hint of a sputter at full throttle near 3,000 rpm. its a 2005 so i know it runs lean thats why i am confused how the tuner is fixing the problem, because it is a canned tune with a CAI. Im wondering if I take off the CAI and take out the tuner, if that will help it be fully fixed or not. any advice?

If you have been running a canned tune with a CAI, I'd be a bit concerned about burned valves from running too lean.

That is impossible....if it was running lean the o2 sensors would ID and the emc would automatically adjust.

The OEM software system is designed to adjust the fuel mixture up to 10%.......that’s more than enough to handle fuel mixture adjustments up to 7,000 foot elevation change! (for high elevations 8,000+ there are oem software programs for those specific applications) The 5.4 V8 for example if close to stock can only suck in a maximum of 480 cfm and a flat panel filter will flow 500 cfm, there is simply no way any CAI on a relatively stock engine can increase the air flow enough to exceed the ECM’s ability to adjust and maintain the correct fuel mixture. The only reason for the “custom” program to support the CAI is because the design is poor resulting in false readings from the air intake sensors, etc….period! which could cause an intermittent miss
