Need some help fellas.

Ok, 98 Scab,5.4 with 119k 4x4 auto. Yesterday the dummy light came on, did my automatic check all the fluids until it could get the code read. Code came up as p0175, bank 2 rich. When I checked the oil i was a bit low, so I went to add some and the filler cap was coated with a milky sludge. The oil on the dipstick was clean, for having 2.5k on it. No coolant is missing. Could this be caused by the temps going up and down, we've been having some pretty wide flucuations(sp) lately. As for the code, the parts guy said leakin o0ring on the injector or 02 sensor. I replaced both fwd 02 sensors this summer, fuel filter 2.5k ago, plugs 15k ago, pcv valve 2.5k ago. Could use some help, im getting ready to move cross country in 29 days and dont want to be stuck in bfe on the side of the road. Any help or input is apreciated

I've never had that code before but I can tell you that the milky sludge on the cap isn't cause for concern. It's simply condensation buildup. Short trips and things like that can cause it.

Possible leaky fuel injector on bank 2 (driver's side).

Thanks, I'll give it a look this weekend to see what I can find, also going to be hooking it up to a computer here soon to see if it can be pin pointed. Also if it is a leaky injector, are the rebuild o-ring kits at o reailly worth doing or should i just take the hit for a new injector?

1. O2's maybe, but you've updated, so that's out(most likely.)
2. Fuel Regulator is bad (that's my guess).
3. Injector(s) might be bad (I doubt it, but possible).

It works like this, - quick view. When the Entry Conditions are met the Fuel Monitor checks that the Fuel Trims have not exceeded their limits, which would indicate a deterioration in the HO2S sensors, or perhaps an intake or fuel pressure fault.
Usually, if the engine is difficult to start when cold and the LTFT is showing a consistent positive LTFT - whether or not P0172 and/or P0175 is recorded then suspect that the pressure regulator is not pressurising the fuel rail properly and the Injectors are unable to provide enough fuel.
Something to think about anyway.

So yea, check your regulator operation.

Good Luck.

I had thought about the regualtor as well but never delt with that before. Well I got it hooked to the computer, its more detailed than just a scanner, we could view some stuff while it was running, of course it looked greek to me. But the O2 sensor were working, we decoded that much. However we pulled codes P0175, P0172, so both lft and rt are rich and code B1352, which is ignition something. Tomorrow Im going to put the stock intake back on, the CAI has been on a few years, but after actually looking down the tube im not good with its filtration, so I will clean the MAF as well. I'll look into the fuel regualtor to see how much that is, my buddy had mentioned doing a presure test on the system. So that tomorrows plan, of course this is after me and the wife go get the oh so awaited twilight movie crap. Thanks for the ideas so far, i'll deffinetly look into them all.

Do the Gotts mod and put a paper filter in it. Washoobis and oiled filters are bad news (flame suit on).

Well..I couldn't get the fuel pressure read, but my trusty ole neighbor who stock piles parts and who had the same truck at one time, traded me a regulator for a couple beers, but I had to find it, pak rats have awsome storage ya know. Well it only took about 3 beers to find it, we changed it out and two days later of varried driving no codes and seems to be a little more gas friendly. Once again, you guys have steered me in the correct direction, thank you
