Any one from 97-03 will fit, best to find one from a 99+ though. They drop in... There are small changes that need to be made but I just did the swap. I didn't really need any specialty tools to do it. Just patience time and JMC's very extensive swap notes.

You will need to buy a torque converter, which cost me $125- and I think that was the most expensive part.

i think i read those but got a little confused. so i can keep everything elect. from the 4.6and put the 5.4 in and use the 4.6 injectors? so all im swapping out is the engine itself

Yep, I used my 4.6 ones... They are the same though. Both are orange tops. Use all the electrical from the 4.6. If you are swapping just the engine yourself are you implying you will be using your 4.6 accessories? Either way is fine. Once you find a 5.4 then you can work out the details. It sounds like a big deal to swap them- but its really not.

yes and no... Yes you really do need one to compensate for the extra displacement. But no because the truck with run on the 4.6 tune. Mines still running on the 4.6 tune... just fine no check engine light. Though you can tell there is still more left in the tune. Don't get hung up on the tune.

Because it's recommended to tune it... Let me put it to you like this a normal person jumping in the truck cannot tell that it's not the correct tune. Though I would consider down the road figuring that part out. Have you found a replacement 5.4 yet. Also where in Iowa are you at?

The fuel rails and intake are different so make sure you get the intake and fuel rails off the 5.4, TC is also advised from the 5.4, however I'm running the 4.6 with no issues. Also if the 5.4 has an oil cooler and the 4.6 doesn't you'll radiator/water hoses compatible with it.

May also want to check the belts to see how many ribs are present on each as well.

Because I err on the side of caution. If some idiot blows up his engine he cannot say that he wasn't warned. I also didn't have to put in any of the info about the torque converters either but I did. Maybe I am having a bad day but your question really pěssed me off.
