It's not a 'valve' as such... It's more like a "screen" that prevents a hose from being shoved down the filler pipe to the tank.. I know my '97 has such a thing... I had heard about it and when I tried to shove a hose down the pipe, it only went down about a foot or so and you couldn't get it any farther.. Even a smaller dia hose would not go down...

Now, they can still just drill a hole in the bottom of the tank and drain it that way if they were looking to steal your gas, but for those that do have a real need to siphon some gas out, you are basically SOL...

You don't siphon fuel from the tank thru the filler tube. You pop the rear vent on top of the tank. Takes a couple minutes. I do it all the time for fuel for the lawnmower/snow blower, - if I'm to lazy to run up to the gas station. I don't use a siphon pump either lol.

Well, that explains a lot! Those gas fumes over the years HAS taken it's toll on you!

"DING" I didn't even think about the vent tube! That bypasses the entire filler hose completely!

#6 vent , disconnect vapor hose from vent. rotate vent 1/4 turn counter clockwise, remove vent, siphone residual fuel from tank. -

No problem, yea I came across that in the Ford Workshop Manual. Probably 20 years ago or so.
